- Shikhar Dhawan will lead India in the series
- Lopsided head to head favours India
India might not be fielding a full-strength squad, but the growth of the IPL has seen India’s bench strength turn pretty strong and they are favourites as they take on West Indies in Providence in the first ODI. India have odds of 1.28 to win the first ODI.

Noteworthy, West Indies haven’t been great in ODIs for a while now and this was reflected in their recent 0-3 loss at home to Bangladesh. They have odds of 3.59 to pull off an upset win, but that will take some doing from the batting unit in particular…
West Indies’ woeful ODI record
West Indies have lost each of their last 11 ODIs against a Full member country with their only three wins in this period coming against Netherlands. They have also lost 10 of their last 11 ODIs against India.
Our pick: A slow deck could see West Indies struggle further against India’s spinners. Back India at 1.28 to win this one!
India have concerns around their batting, but will look to field a lot of youngsters in the middle and top-order. This essentially would be a series for the young guns to make a place for themselves in the main squad once the big players are available.
Keep an eye on…
Ruturaj Gaikwad: Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to debut and open the batting with Shikhar Dhawan. Gaikwad has a compelling record in domestic cricket in this format and would be looking to make an immediate impact at the top of the order.
Nicholas Pooran: West Indies’ skipper hasn’t really translated his T20 potential into ODIs, reflected by an average under 35. He will, however, be the key player in the middle-order for West Indies.
TIP: Deepak Hooda is in great form with the bat with a hundred in Ireland and good knocks against England. Back Deepak Hooda at 12.02 to be the best match batter for India!
