Both teams have had mixed returns in the Big Bash League matches this season
Sydney Thunder overcame a loss in the first match to notch up wins in their next two games to go up to seven points in the Big Bash League 2020/21 season. They rest just outside the top four and have done reasonably well to stay ahead of the bottom rung with the bowling unit, in particular, looking impressive. The Thunder have odds at 1.83 to win this game.
The Renegades might have finished at the bottom in the 2019/20 season, but they appeared to have solved a lot of their issues with some excellent additions ahead of this season. It’s not reflecting on the ground, though, with two heavy defeats so far. They have won one game, their first of the season against the Scorchers but it looks like they have a lot of polishing to do still. They have odds of 1.83 to win this clash, but the Melbourne Renegades will have to bring their A game to the table to defeat the Thunder who look solid this season.
Renegades have an overwhelmingly good record against Thunder
If overall records are anything to go by, the Renegades are well-placed to win against the Thunder. They have nine wins and two losses against the Sydney-based franchise in the Big Bash League history. That said, the overall records count for little, especially when teams have undergone large-scale changes in the last few seasons.
RECOMMENDED BET: The Thunder are the in-form side and have odds of 1.83 to beat the Renegades.
In the 2019/20 season, the Thunder registered their first win against the Renegades since the 2013/14 season. While that might be a rather innocuous record compared to what the Renegades have, it’s possibly a sign that the dominating overall record is starting to sound a little over the top.
Keep an eye on…
The Renegades batting: Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh Rilee Rossouw and Sam Harper make for quite a formidable top four that can win most games. It’s a surprise they haven’t fired in pairs at least until now. The Thunder will be wary of a strong comeback from the Renegades, particularly with that line-up.
Tanveer Sangha: He may not be a world-famous bowler, but the Australian leggie has done his job this season and looks a handy addition in the Thunder setup. Expect him to turn up against one of the best batting line-ups in the competition on paper.
TIP: The Renegades have the stronger batting line-up and have odds of 1.95 to hit more sixes in the game.
