India continue to look for the elusive series win
India have never won a Test series in South Africa and they might never really have a better opportunity to do so than now. With the team on a high after a thumping win in Centurion, and South Africa battling with the sudden retirement of Quinton de Kock and a fragile batting unit, India are favourites with odds of 2.02 to win and beat South Africa at Johannesburg.
South Africa, on the other hand, are a side in transition and appeared as much at Centurion, a fortress for them. At Johannesburg, they will look to field an all-pace attack, but the batting remains fragile against a strong Indian bowling attack. They have odds of 3.71 to win the match.
India’s tryst with Johannesburg
Noteworthy, India have never lost a Test match at Johannesburg. In five Tests, India have won two and drawn three. For a side known to be poor travellers until recently, that’s a great record and the current Indian side, arguably their best ever Test team, will back themselves to win at Johannesburg and maintain the streak.
RECOMMENDED BET: Back India to seal a series win with odds of 2.02!
Overall in South Africa, India have won only four Test matches over the years, two of which came at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. That they have won just four out of 21 matches means little in the current context with India clearly a cut above South Africa as a Test side now.
Keep an eye on…
Duanne Olivier: He missed the last game as he was still recovering, but Duanne Olivier will add an extra edge to South Africa’s attack that already appeared good in Centurion. If the rest of the South African attack get their plans in place, Olivier could be a thorn for India.
Jasprit Bumrah: South Africa have had no answers to Jasprit Bumrah in the last two Test series these sides met in. Bumrah has been a relentless partnership breaker for India and will be used in a similar way at the Wanderers too.
TIP: KL Rahul is in top form for India and will enjoy the bounce and carry at Johannesburg. Back him at 5.91 to be India’s top batter!
