Already qualified MI look to continue dominance for the top spot
- Mumbai Indians are unbeaten but can’t be complacent as the top spot sends the team directly into the final.
- UP Warriorz have a significantly better net run-rate than Gujarat and Bangalore so a win can pretty seal their playoff spot.
March 18 brings you a doubleheader in the WPL 2023 with UP Warriorz taking on Mumbai Indians in match no. 15 at Dr DY Patil Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Mumbai Indians, who are on an unbeaten streak of five matches, head into this match as heavy favourites with the odds of 1.45
The Warriorz are placed third with four points and a net run-rate of -0.196. They’re coming off a narrow defeat against RCB women on Wednesday but a win here could secure their playoff berth. However, UP have odds of winning this match at 2.60 only.
Mumbai Indians and their all-round bowling attack
Mumbai Indians bowling attack is simply not easy to deal with. They’re the only team to defend a target below 200 in the tournament. If there’s new ball movement, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong are there to exploit it. And the spin department has off-spin, leg-spin and left-arm spin, covering all the bases.
Our Pick: Both the sides have strong bowling attacks but MI have a much better batting line-up. We predict Mumbai Indians to win this match at 1.45 odds.
The MI batting has been tested in the last two games but Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Yastika Bhatia have been superb. Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr remain a key part as does Saika Ishaque.
UP Warriorz had lost half the side for just 31 in the previous game against RCB before Grace Harris led the comeback with 46 off 32. Defending 136, Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma did an excellent job but didn’t get enough support.
Keep an eye on..
Yastika Bhatia has been very impressive in the competition at the top of the order for Mumbai. She has made three back to back 40+ scores in the last three outings.
Grace Harris has batted twice in this season, smashing 59* off 26 and 46 off 32. The power-hitter has the ability to take the game away from the opposition in quick time.
