Kings top-order against Mumbai’s superpower
Kings XI Punjab have had a roller-coaster beginning to their 2020 IPL season. They played out of their skin against Delhi Capitals but could only tie the game and lost to one of the best death bowlers in world cricket. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore they were ruthless and went on to notch up their first win. Against Rajasthan Royals they made a terrific total of 223, but the opposition produced a miraculous performance to chase it down. As they head into Mumbai, Punjab have their backs against the wall and odds of 2.20 to win.
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, are the defending champions and are on the back of a heart-wrenching loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Super Over. They began the season with another loss to CSK and have just one win in three games like Punjab. They, however, have a strong core group in batting and bowling and are favoured to win this game with odds of 1.64.
Mumbai and Punjab almost have an equal head to head record
Despite the contrasting fortunes of the two teams in the history of the IPL, Punjab have almost managed to win as many games as Mumbai Indians in the head to head fixtures. In 24 matches, Mumbai have 13 wins and Punjab have 11, barely a difference to notice.
RECOMMENDED BET: MI have won three of the last four matches between these teams and have odds of 1.64 to notch up another win.
MI have won three of the last four matches between these teams and have generally been the more dominant side in the competition. In this year’s competition, Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab have both begun rather sedately , winning just one of their three matches.
Keep an eye on…
The Mumbai Indians bowling: Even with no Lasith Malinga, the Mumbai Indians have managed to cope well with Trent Boult and James Pattinson impressing. However, the lynchpin in the attack, Jasprit Bumrah, hasn’t quite hit his straps and this will worry the think-tank.
TIP: Kings XI openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are in great form and have a hundred each and the odds of a batsman scoring a hundred this game is at 8.00.
Rahul and Mayank: One of the most dangerous opening pairs in the competition, Rahul and Mayank Agarwal go a long way back having begun their careers together in Karnataka. They have taken this year’s IPL by storm and are expected to pose a stiff challenge to Mumbai’s bowling in the powerplay.
