RuPay and Swiggy Instamart are the main sponsors for the IPL. The Title sponsorship earned the IPL Rs 335 crore from TATA. Ceat has remained as the Strategic Timeout sponsor.
The other official partners are Dream11, Unacademy, CRED, and Upstox. The Orange and Purple Cap partner is Aramco. The official Broadcasters are Star Sports. The official Digital Streaming sponsors are Disney and Hotstar. The Umpire sponsors are PayTM.
Team sponsorships can be made up of Principle Partners, Official partners, Digital partners, Pouring partners, Radio partners, and merchandise partners. These sponsorships add up to massive revenues for the team.
Branded IPL merchandise is another massive stream of revenue for the IPL teams, with millions of fans worldwide. The IPL franchises form partnerships with e-commerce portals to sell their merchandise online. They also form partnerships with companies manufacturing and distributing the merchandise to retail outlets and sporting grounds. These licenses to sell a team’s merchandise can be very lucrative for both the team and the license holder.
Some examples of teams and their license holders or partners are as follows: Performax is the official Jersey partner of the Mumbai Indians. Seven is the merchandising license holder for the Chennai Super Kings. Alcis Sports are Rajasthan Royals’ kitting and merchandising license holders. Myntra is the official Fashion Partner for RCB.
IPL Prize Money
The teams playing in the IPL are motivated to win the title by pride and money. The 2022 IPL prize money is exceptionally lucrative. The team winning the 2022 IPL will get paid INR 20 crore, and the runners-up for this year will get INR 13 crore. Big bucks are up for grabs for the team losing the Qualifier Two match for INR 7 crore. The team losing the Eliminator match gets paid Ind 6.5 crore. The prize money for the Man of the Match award in every game is INR 1 lakh. The prize for the Most Valuable Player of the season, along with the Power Player, Super Striker, and the season’s Game Changer, is INR 12 lakh each. KKR and RCB follow with INR 540 crore. SH has a brand value of INR 442 crore. DC, PK, and RR have brand values of INR370 crore, INR 318 crore, and INR 249 crore, respectively. Mumbai Indians increased their IPL brand value by 13% in 2022 and have the title of the IPL team with the highest brand value now. Winning the IPL has a significant impact on the brand value of a team.
Ticket sales are essential in any big sporting event. The teams earn considerable revenue if they can have a sell-out stadium for a game. The Indian Premier League franchises get a lot of income on a matchday. Ticket prices, merchandising, food, and other beverages account for nearly 20% of a franchise’s overall income. A franchise can earn about INR 400 crore from the sale of tickets alone. The bigger the stars in the two teams competing, the higher the ticket prices.
