England’s batting in focus
- India have been clinical with the ball.
- England aim to counter new ball.
India are in brilliant form with the white ball and it’s shown in the three T20Is and the first ODI. They have odds of 1.76 to win the second ODI given England’s issues against the new ball that the bowling attack has time and again exposed.

England, on the other hand, appear clueless against the new ball and Jasprit Bumrah last game and Bhuvneshwar Kumar prior to that exploited it brilliantly. If they manage to get through that phase, England might trouble India. They have odds of 1.94 to win the game.
England’s woes
At the Oval, England were reduced to 26/5, but it’s been a trend right through this white-ball leg. The batting hasn’t clicked with the ball moving around and India’s seamers hitting the right spots.
Our pick: India are strong with their new ball bowling and are favourites to win. Back India at 1.76 to win this one!
India have concerns around their batting too, but Rohit Sharma has found form as has Shikhar Dhawan. England’s attack hasn’t quite been able to pose as big a threat as India’s. India will still want to test their batting depth this series.
Keep an eye on…
Rohit Sharma: Aside from flattening bowling attacks on flat tracks, Rohit Sharma has now learned the art of survival against the new ball and then making the start count to make big scores. England has brought him immense success with six of his seven ODI tons coming in the country since 2018.
Jos Buttler: With England’s top-order in shambles, Jos Buttler will need to ensure he can take India’s attack head on in the middle overs. It hasn’t, however, always been that easy for Buttler against India in white-ball cricket.
TIP: Joe Root loves batting against India and could be the batter to keep India at bay this series. Back Joe Root at 4.63 to be best match batter for England!
