This year’s Indian Premier League is set to be something special. Covid-19 affected the 2020/2021 seasons of IPL but, the stadiums are starting to fill up again. Gujarat Titans – G.T. – CVC Capitals (Irelia Company Pte Ltd)
Gujarat Titans were founded in October 2021, and their home ground is in Motera. The franchise plays its games from the Narendra Stadium. CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte LTD) is the Gujarat Titans owner. The G.T. owners are Steve Koltes, Donald Mackenzie, and Rolly van Rappard. The GT IPL owners won the bid of Rs 5,625 crore to the city of Ahmedabad to form the new Indian Premier League team. The British private equity and investment firm, CVC Capital Partners, has over 75 billion pounds. Hardik Pandya will captain the team.
Lucknow SuperGiants – LSG – Sanjeev Goenka (RPSG Ventures Ltd)
The other new team in the 2022 IPL is the Lucknow SuperGiants. The RPSG group is the new LSG owner and founded the team in late 2021. Sanjiv Goenka is the chairperson and owner of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group. The RPSG group is based in Kolkata. They also have a majority stake in the football club ATK Mohun Bagan. The team will play from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The Lucknow SuperGiants is the most expensive franchise in IPL after the bid of Rs 7,090 crore was awarded to the new LSG owner. Gautam Gambhir is the coach, and the team captain is KL Rahul.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – SRH – Kalanithi Maran (Sun T.V. Network)
The Sunrisers Hyderabad owner is Kalanithi Maran of the SUN Group/T.V. network. SRH was founded in 2012. Kaviya Maran is the CEO and co-owner of SRH. She is the daughter of Kalanithi Maran and part of great business people and politicians’ family. The SRH owners have put a lot of money into their team and supporting staff for the 2022 IPL. Their coaching team has big names like Brian Lara, Dale Steyn, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Hemang Badani, with the head coach being Tom Moody. Kane Williamson will captain the team, and the word is that SHR will build the team around their captain.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – RCB – Anand Kripalu (United Spirits)
United Spirits Limited is the Royal Challengers Bangalore owner. They are the largest alcoholic beverage company in India and the second biggest alcoholic beverage company by volume in the world. Their head office is in Bengaluru in Karnataka. The CEO of United Spirits Limited, Prathmesh Mishra, is also the chairman of RCB. The RCB owners are part of the Diageo Group company. With captain Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glen Maxwell, and Dinesh Kartik, RCB is hoping for their first win. RCB has never won the IPL, although they played in three finals. With this line-up and excellent support base, 2022 might be their year.
Rajasthan Royals – R.R. – Manoj Badale (Emerging Media)
The Rajasthan Royals owners are made up of the following investors. Emerging Media IPL Limited’s Manoj Badale holds 65%. Bluewater Estate Limited’s Lachlan Murdoch has 17%. The US-based RedBird Capital Partners owns 15%, and late Australian spin-bowler Shane Warne’s estate holds 3%. Manoj Badale is an Indian Businessman. They are captained by Sanju Samson and have Karun Nair, Josh Butler, and Kuldip Yadav on the team. The RR owners hope to win the IPL cup for the second time in 2022.
Mumbai Indians – MI – Mukesh Ambani (Reliance)
The Mumbai Indians owner is Mukesh Ambani from the Reliance Group. MI owner Mukesh, his wife Nita Ambani, and their son Akash Ambani from the Reliance Group have been involved with Mumbai Indians from their first IPL game. The Reliance Group and partner Viacom are in a bid for the broadcasting rights for the IPL. Mukesh Ambani is the richest sports team owner in the world. Rohit Sharma leads the Mumbai Indians. The MI owners retained some big names in Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard and invested in youngsters like Baby Abe (Dewald Brevis) in the bid to win their sixth IPL title.
Kolkata Knight Riders – KKR – Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla
The Kolkata Knight Riders’ owners are Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her husband, Jay Mehta. The legal entities of the KKR owners are Knight Riders Private Limited, co-owned by Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group. The Red Chillies Entertainment owns 55% and Metha Group 45%. KKR represents the city of West Bengal in Kolkata. The KKR owners have been involved with KKR from the inaugural IPL season in 2008. The Knight Riders Sports Private Limited also owns The Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League and the Cape Town Knight Riders team. They have won the IPL twice.
Punjab Kings – PBKS – Preity Zinta
The Punjab Kings’ owner is KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited. PBKS owners are Mohit Burman of Dabur India Ltd, Ness Wadia of the Wadia Group, The Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and Karan Paul. Mohit Burman is the director of Dabur India Ltd and holds 46% of the franchise. The Punjab Kings franchise is worth around Rs359 crore and is one of the original eight IPL franchises. They play their games out of the PCA Stadium in Mohali. They finished runners-up in 2014. With captain Shikar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, and Johnny Bairstow on the team, they have an excellent chance to reach the finals in IPL 2022.
Delhi Capitals – 2022 DC – JSW & GMR Group
The Delhi Capitals’ owners are the GMR Group and the JSW Group. The first D.C. owner was the property development company, the GMR Group, in 2008. The franchise was then known as the Delhi Daredevils. The JSW Group acquired 50% of the franchise in 2018. The JSW Group is a multinational conglomerate worth USD 13 billion. D.C. plays from the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The net worth of the Delhi Capitals is over Rs 370 crore. With Rishabh Pant as captain and the excellent players in David Warner, Anrich Nortje, Mitchell Marsh, and Lalit Yadav, they have a great chance to take the IPL 2022 trophy home to Delhi.
Chennai Super Kings – CSK – N Srinivasan (India Cements)
The Chennai Super Kings owner is Chennai Super Kings Cricket LTD, with India Cements as its major stakeholder. SCK was founded in 2008, and the team plays from the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The CSK owner was involved in the 2013 IPL betting saga, and CSK was suspended for a two-season period. In their comeback season of 2018, they won the IPL title. In January 2022, CSK became the first Indian unicorn sports enterprise valued at more than US$1 billion. The team captain is Ravindra Jadeja and coached by Stephen Fleming. The reigning champion may retain the coveted trophy in 2022.
