You surely know that Indian Premier League is the biggest, richest, and best T20 franchise league in the world. No other T20 league boasts just about every T20 star in the world such as: Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada, Rishabh Pant, to name a few…
So that’s the cricket side of the event, but what about the betting side? If you’re new to betting on the IPL, here are some of the best and most popular IPL betting markets that you can wager on for every IPL match during the league.

Winner Market (Including Super Over)
It’s a simple, two-option market where you’re betting on who will go on to win the game. Unsurprisingly, this is the most popular market by far because obviously the most important part of a cricket match is who actually wins it.
You should be aware that these days there’s no such thing as a tie in a T20 betting winner market. If the game is indeed tied after the 40 overs, then it goes to a Super Over and the winner of that is the winner of the game, and the winner on the betting market.

Toss Winner
The single most important five seconds of any game of cricket is the toss. This is when the captain who wins the toss decides whether to bat or field first, based on his team’s strengths in doing one, or the other. On other occasions, it’s the conditions on the day that determine what the skipper decides to do.
You can bet on who will win the toss: it’s another two-option market and it’s either Team A or Team B.
FUN FACT Even though it should be a 50/50 chance, RCB (and India) skipper Virat Kohli has a notoriously poor record at the toss. So, bear that in mind when betting on the toss winner in matches involving RCB!
Most Sixes
By definition, no scoring shot is worth more runs than a six, or a maximum, as it’s sometimes also known. Players like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Jos Buttler have forged brilliant careers out of their ability to clear the boundary time and time again, and often when it most matters. So, it makes sense that you should be able to bet on which team scores the most sixes during an IPL match.
A good way of researching this is to look at how many sixes a team scores on average and also how many sixes a team concedes on average. It’s also worth looking at the make-up of the team on the day:
- If a side has players who like to slowly accumulate runs like Steve Smith or even Kohli, then they’re probably not a great bet to get the most sixes
- But if they have huge power-hitters like Pollard or Russell, then they could be the team to go with.
Keep in mind that this is a three-option market because there’s also the possibility of it being a tie, if for example, both teams hit exactly eight sixes each.
The tie will always be the outsider of the three (the one with the highest odds) because it’s far more difficult for the teams to hit the same number of sixes, than one team hitting more than the other.
Most Fours
This works in exactly the same way as the most sixes market. Except of course, that it’s fours you’re interested in rather than sixes. Do the research in the same way as you would for the most sixes market and remember that it’s also a three-option market, with the tie in there.
Team Top Batsman
There are 11 players on a T20 IPL team so that means there are 11 players who can be the team’s top batsman and therefore there are 11 options on this betting market. You’re betting on which player will score the most runs for his team, not across both teams.
TIP Top-order batsmen have the best chance of top scoring because they can face the most balls and are always guaranteed to bat. But then again, they’re also always the betting favourites at the shortest odds.
So, it could pay to go with lower middle-order batsmen at bigger odds who can score very quickly. How many times have the likes of Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell or even MS Dhoni top scored at number 6 or 7 in their IPL careers at big odds? Lots.
You should be aware that in the event of a tie between two players, you get paid out at half the odds.
Team Top Bowler
Similar to the top batsman market, but this time there are up to 10 options (the wicketkeeper obviously isn’t included), although realistically only six or seven players tend to bowl. The best way to research this market is to look not at a player’s average or economy rate, but rather their strike rate: how many balls on average they need to take a wicket.
When it comes to odds, the favourites are the so-called ‘champion bowlers’. You know who they are: Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Jofra Archer, Jasprit Bumrah and so on.
TOP TIP You could look beyond these. One thing that often happens is that overseas bowlers tend to be available at far shorter odds than the Indian ones. So, players like Ravindra Jadeja or Mohammad Siraj can often be better options because they’re at considerably bigger odds despite having good chances.
It’s worth noting that as per 10CRIC’s rules, if two or more players tie on the number of wickets taken, the next factor is how many runs they conceded. Whoever conceded fewer, wins. If that’s still a tie, then it’s a dead-heat and you get paid out at half the odds.
Total Runouts
A simple one. Will there be more than 0.5 or 1.5 run outs in the match? It’s either over or under that number, so is another example of a two-option market.
TIP Just remember that a stumping by the wicketkeeper doesn’t qualify as a run-out.

Man of the match
At the end of any IPL match, one player is nominated as the man-of-the-match, sometimes also known as the Player of the Match. Betting on who that might be is one of the most fun markets to bet on, for two main reasons.
The first is that it’s a bet that keeps you interested during the whole duration of the game. The second is that because there are 22 candidates, even the favourites like Kohli, Russell or KL Rahul are always available at big odds, at least 7.0, and sometimes as much as 25.0.
TIP 99% of the time the man-of-the-match comes from the team who wins the game, so try to work out which team might win the match and then look at players from that particular team as man-of-the-match candidates.
